The Challenge: Achieving Mirror Finish and Precision on Intricate Internal Features

The pump housing featured deep internal cavities, multiple flange faces, mounting bosses, and fluid passages that demanded exceptional surface smoothness to minimize turbulence and prevent corrosion. While investment casting provided excellent as-cast geometry with minimal draft angles, critical areas—like sealing faces, bore alignments, and flow channels—required mirror polishing (Ra < 0.2 µm) and tolerances as tight as ±0.02 mm. Excessive stock removal or improper fixturing could distort the casting or compromise integrity.

  3. Horizontal Machining Center (HMC) Excellence – Leveraged our high-precision HMC for efficient pallet-changing, multi-face machining in a single setup, including boring, milling, and high-speed finishing of internal passages.

  4. Progressive Finishing & Inspection – Combined CNC operations with controlled polishing sequences, using in-process CMM and surface profilometry for real-time verification.

  • Mirror-like surface finish (Ra 0.1-0.2 µm) on all fluid-contacting passages
